The Story

This is a stunning vintage Azilal Boucherouite rug sourced from the markets of Marrakesh, Morocco. It is a shaggy pinkish red knotted rug with an ivory wash that creates an almost shimmer effect. Large geometric symbols in brown and teal decorate the center and there is fringe at one end. This is a truly unique rug and would be so soft underneath your feet!

From the Azilal region of the northern Atlas Mountains, Azilal rugs are single-knotted and incorporate ancestral myths into their designs using archaic images and symbols.

Boucherouite rugs (taken from the Arabic word ‘bu sherwit meaning, ‘a piece torn from used clothing’) are made by Berber women in the Atlas Mountains region of Morocco. Woven from rags and scraps of fabric, they represent the results of widespread economic, social and cultural changes in Morocco’s rural areas. These rugs are bright and colorful, and no two are alike.
